I grew up hearing my father talk about Bill Doggett and Honky Tonk. He finally taught me how to play it on the guitar and it was so cool. Happy 100th Bill!!

Saw you at Showman's in NYC back in 1998 as you sat in your van outside between sets. We talked about me spending my lunch money playing' Honky Tonk' Pt 2 on the jukebox at Pops Candy Store in Detroit when I was 14. You laughed and offered me a quarter as payback. Billy Butler's opening on Pt 1 is still with me and the tenor groove created by Clifford Scott is something I still enjoy today. Sixty years later. You were great man! Happy 100. You're still with us!

Happy Birthday to the late Bill Dougett. Much respect and also to San Antonio's Clifford Scott. Music legends and inspirationist's. Honky Tonk is a blues milestone that every musician should learn. Chester Tompson also a music legend, will definatly honor the man who brought real essence and soul to the music. RIP and we are here celebrating you musical triumphs for our future generations. Happy 100 !!

What great fun to speak with you last Saturday on WPFW's "Andrea Bray Show" about your uncle's legacy and learn, for example, that "Part 2" of "Honky Tonk" was actually the jukebox favorite! Be sure to check out the link to the June 1986 of Cincinnati Magazine in today's Zero to 180 special "Centennial" celebration -- Bill Doggett is given a fair amount of ink in this lengthy piece about Syd Nathan's independent operation: http://www.zeroto180.org/?p=22810
